Free School Meals

Children may be entitled to Free School Meals. If you think your child is entitled please go to the Enfield Council website to get more information.

Raglan Infant SchoolDuring the school year 2009/2010 the Local Authority is building us a new dining room and kitchen. During the building period there will be no hot meals at the school. Instead the children will be eating a packed lunch in their classrooms. We realise not every family wants to prepare packed lunches for their children, and have therefore arranged with Catering Services that these may be purchased at school in the same way that school dinners have been purchased. Children who are entitled to free school meals will be provided with a packed lunch during this time.

All the packed lunches conform to current nutritional standards. Parents were able to sample typical lunches during our Open Afternoon in July and were very positive about them. There will be an opportunity for YR parents to sample the lunches in October.

Families may prefer to send a packed lunch to school for their child and that is perfectly acceptable.

Packed Lunch

packed lunchChildren will require a lunch box with their name and class number clearly marked. These are kept in crates or trolleys until lunchtime. No glass containers, fizzy drinks sweets or chocolates should be included in the lunch box. Should an accident occur to a packed lunch, the child will be given a school meal and parents will be asked to pay for the meal at the current rate.

Each reception class is allocated their own Playleader who keeps an eye on them at lunchtime. Reception children gradually build up their experience of school lunchtime so as to help them settle happily.

Play leaders supervise children when they are eating, and Mrs Crouchman and her team organise a programme to keep children active and occupied at lunchtime.

A senior member of staff is always available in case of emergency and our Welfare Assistant, Mrs Brennan is also on duty at lunchtime to deal with any injuries or illness.

The school values both its Playleaders and its Canteen staff very highly and expect children to treat them with respect. Many of the staff on duty at lunchtime are also Teaching Assistants and all staff have received extensive training to carry out their role of caring for and interacting with children and making the lunchtime a pleasant experience.
